Railway line connecting Shoreham with Horsham via Steyning (often referred to as the Steyning or Adur Valley Line): operated by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway from 1861 to 1923, by Southern Railway from 1923 to 1948 and by British Railways (later British Rail) from 1948 to closure of the line to all passenger traffic in March 1966 (some freight services kept the line between Shoreham and the cement works at Dacre Gardens operational until the early-1980s, after which the track was lifted). |
