Manchester Education Authority Rural Studies Centre during 1950's and 60's. Great Saturday morning club for kids, loved it. Learned loads about plants, vegs, allotments, bees, wildlife, rural crafts and arts and we even entered Platt Fields Show - anything for a day off school. Played hare & hounds through the woods to the river. If too wet outdoors, black and white movies in the barn! |

THIS TRIANGULAR PLOT ORIGINALLY BELONGED TO THE GROUNDS OF PARRS WOOD HOUSE (OFF PICTURE ON RIGHT). IT BECAME SEPARATED WHEN KINGSWAY WAS BUILT. THE CORPORATION TOOK IT OVER AND TURNED IT INTO A FORMAL GARDEN. NOW A LITTLE TATTY.

The new Manchester Metrolink station Parrs Wood/East Didsbury has been built here. The new tram line follows the old railway line from the left (from Manchester) and terminates here due to building on the line to the right. No indication of when the new tram service will be open. |

Pretty sure that the clock on the corner of Kingsway and Parrswood Lane is an original retained feature of the bus depot building |

Straight dual-carriageway is Kingsway with tram tracks on the central reservation. Trams ran from the terminus here at Parrs Wood to Manchester. The parallel railway is part of the Style Line from London Road station designed to bypass Stockport. The railway line crossing it at right angles is part of the Midland main line from Derby to Manchester Central. This bit is between Heaton Mersey and Didsbury stations. |

This is the junction of Kingsway (A34) / Parrs Wood Road / Wilmslow Road. East Didsbury Station is bottom left & the large building in the centre is Parrs Wood Bus Depot. The bus depot was demolished around 1980 & replaced with a Tesco store. The landmark clock tower at the right end/corner of the depot building was retained as part of the re-development. |
