This pub was originally and for most of its existence known as the White Hart. The Redback was a very recent renaming and is already redundant. It was closed down and reopened firstly, as the Acton Arms and currently as The Aeronaut.

During the '60s and '70s it was a very popular venue for live R&B and punk acts.

The Who (a local band) often played here in their earlier days.

Just inside the East gate (now disappeared) this is most probably the headstone, then still erect, of PC William Davey, who was shot whilst On Duty whilst trying to apprehend a suspect in nearby Avenue Road, Ealing. 19th January, 1863. The headstone has lain flat on the ground inside the boundary wall for decades, and is now broken into 3 pieces with the inscription barely decipherable.

Saddened by this _ I will make a point of looking for it next time I pass by.
