The Aintree Institute. This building was demolished in 2007 - Before they became famous, 'The Beatles' had a record thirty one gigs at this location. The Institute was founded by William Pickles Hartley in 1891 - His jam works were in Long Lane nearby . The building's main purpose was as an ecumenical community hub. |

This large building at the junction of Melling Road and Greenwich Road was a hostel for railwaymen from other UK locations who had this facility to stay overnight until their homeward turn in the next day or two. |

Fazakerley railway station on the Liverpool Exchange to Manchester via Wigan Wallgate line. Still used as part of the Merseyrail line to Kirkby. You now have to change at Kirkby if you want to travel on to Wigan etc. |

The vast Aintree marshalling yard. Part of it was used every year to position and service Grand National excursion trains. You can see the engine shed and coaling tower nearby. It was a very busy area until the 1960s when railway freight traffic into the Port of Liverpool declined due to conrainerisation and the greater use of lorry haulage. |

The Palace Cinema on Warbreck Moor. As a boy I used to, with my pals, enjoy the Saturday afternoon matinee (for seven old pence). I can still remember the smell of chewing gum and other confections in the auditorium. |
