Orfordness Lighthouse, originally established in 1637 and later developed into a modern automated tower by 1965, was deactivated in 2013 and ultimately removed in 2020 after severe coastal erosion undermined its foundations.

Now known as 'The Black Beacon' this was built in 1929 to house an experimental rotating loop navigation beacon. It was shut down in 1936.

Built in 1933 to house the equipment used to record the flight of bombs in order to improve their aerodynamics and to provide data for the production of tables to refine bomb aiming. Continued in use until 1957.
