Davies Bridge The bridge was named as a compliment to Lieutenant-Colonel S. E. Davies according to an article in the Newcastle Journal and North Mail on 4 May 1944. Colonel Davies is quoted in the article as saying “I have pressed for ten years for this scheme, which I have always considered to be essential, and it will be a proud moment for me when the first vehicle passes over this bridge and to know that the scandalous and costly traffic delay will be a thing of the past”. {c/o Stockton Reference Library}

Stockton Stone & Concrete Company from 1899 to 1967. Bell and brass founders were earlier occupants of these premises; the original bell known as "Big Ben" was cast here in 1856. Unfortunately this bell cracked during testing and it was broken up and recast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
