Griffins fruit & coal yard est 1926 had yards both sides of stevenage road first yard on west side of stevenage road where griffin court is now 'both yards were very busy with fruit and vegetables coming in from all parts of the world via covent garden market and major ports such as london and liverpool docks. rows of louis reece trucks loaded with american mackintosh apples waiting to unload would be parked from top of stevenage road in early 1950s company finished in 1968-69 land sold now private flats.(formally spicers coal yard) also around this area of stevenage road lived Dearman family whose house and yard backed on to griffins yard (east side) now the maples private flats
