British Railways Sports Ground, Earle Street. Opened as the second Alexandra Athletic Grounds, replacing (c 1900) the original which was at the corner of Gresty Road and Nantwich Street, immediately west of Crewe Station. That site was needed for building of the independent lines avoiding the station.
