Grange Mount garage. (Main building has hardly changed) My dad owned during the sixties then moved to Egerton Street and converted a refrigeration factory to a large commercial garage which was compulsory purchased and demolished for the new tunnel entrance. |

This is Cole Street primary school, where my brother and myself attended in the early 1950's. It has since closed and as of 2015 is the proposed site of a new residential development. The white area on the roof was our play ground, used for recess periods. |

This large house was the nurses home for staff working down the road at the General Hospital. Living nearby, we were all used to seeing a steady stream of nurses walking up and down Park Road North between both buildings. |

This building in Park Road East used to be the sea scouts hut and here in 1953 I watched television for the very first time when a bank of sets were lined up for people to come and watch the Queen's coronation. |

The Gaumont cinema. In the 40's at least, every Saturday morning had the "Kiddies' matinee". 2hours for 6 pence: 20 minutes "unknown subject"; cartoon; serial; main feature, occasionally pirates, usually western.... Enthusiasm often drowned out the sound. |

I used to go here in the 1950's when I lived in Payson Street. We moved up to the Woodchurch Estate in Summer, 1959 but I still used to go down to the Saturday morning matinee. |
