My father was involved in the development here at the time - the construction was severely delayed by the bad winter that preceded the Floods of 1947 - and he was concerned about how to keep 200 men in work when construction was halted. It is rumoured that former Italian prisoners of war were involved in the construction and that there was a construction camp near to Queen Anne's Gate but so far no photos have emerged. During the war this area was a coal dump. This photo would have been taken about one month after the floods subsided (although this area was unaffected). There is more here. http://theroyalwindsorforum.yuku.com/topic/1153 and here http://theroyalwindsorforum.yuku.com/topic/1235/
EDIT: It has since been established that the construction camp was adjacent to Stag Meadow Football Ground and that some of the accommodation huts remained for a number of years afterwards beside the ground. Confirmation of this would be welcome! '
