' Former WW2 camp occupied by the HQ of the US Army's XX Corps under General Walton Walker and visited by General George S Patton Jnr, then vacated to become the US Army's 347th Station Hospital, a facility that in 12 months of active service after D-Day treated over 70,000 patients-latterly moving to the Ogbourne/Chiseldon location. After the war the camp was occupied by displaced persons and those without homes, before becoming Marlborough Secondary Modern school. Now demolished, only the tarmac roads remain and a memorial to both the school and the 347th Hospital. '
