This base , RFC Cherhill , later Yatesbury , was built in the 14-18 war mainly for forming up Squadrons for the front .
The White Horse on the hill on the opposite side of the A4 , clearly visible from Cherhill , was incorporated in the badge of 28 Squadron RFC after the Squadron was formed and trained here prior to going to France '
