' Is this the Hygeia? The Port Health Authority had a floating quarantine unit moored off Gravesend. This also provided accommodation for staff on duty and a base for the launches used for transporting the medical inspection officers to ships arriving from outside of Europe. Their role was to check on the health of the crews and to remove any suffering from communicable diseases to the Denton Isolation Hospital. The first Hygeia was a wooden hulk set up in 1922. This was replaced in 1935 by a converted steel Admiralty lighter, also named Hygeia. '
