' A collier, possibly the S.S. Ashley. The attached picture shows the Ashley passing through the swing bridge, in the 1930s. This looks remarkably similar to the one in the aerial photo, or could be a sister ship. The same ships visited to Newhaven on a regular basis, as this was all they did. Colliers probably came from the northeast ports, Tyneside, or Blythe for example. '
