' Beneath this narrow field adjacent to the river are underground storage tanks, which were part of the WW2 strategic fuel reserve. The installation is still largely intact, and the discharge pipework can still be seen along the riverbank, where tanker-barges used to unload their cargoes at a wharf. The fuel could be distributed by rail; the line passes close by another part of the site on the eastern side of the river. '
