' Appleby Railway Station - Lincolnshire. This station was opened by the Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway. It ran 14 miles from Gunness, on the east bank of the Trent where it made an end-on junction with the South Yorkshire Railway's line from Doncaster. It ran to Wrawby Junction, near Barnetby, where it met the main line of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway from Retford to Grimsby. Renamed Appleby (Lincolnshire) in 1923. Closed June 1967. The railway line is still in use for Cleethorpes-Manchester passenger trains. Not to be confused with the better known Appleby station on the Settle-Carlisle line in Cumbria. '
