' Castle Street Methodist Church. I think this was the Primitive Methodist chapel; the one further to the west on Edgeley Road opposite the park was the Wesleyan Methodist chapel. The reunion of Methodists in 1932 gradually rendered the number of chapels unnecessary, and this church building was sold off for a shopping development some time in the '60s/70s. A stone in the wall of the Somerfield supermarket on Castle Street recalls the chapel's graveyard, and the human remains that were reinterred. The money raised from the sale of the Castle Street chapel enabled the reconstruction of the remaining Edgeley Methodist chapel opposite the park. '
