' The Reay Gear Works that started off in Hebburn very late 1920s or early 30s. The Sheds had previously been built as 'Platers Sheds' for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co in 1919. Unfortunately the Company went bust after 2 yrs & the machinery & sheds stood unsold for years. Later George Angus took over the gear making business & later still Richardson Westgarth took over. Their name was RW Transmissions & they closed in the mid 1970s. The photo shows the Reay Gear Works about 1940 from the far side of the factory. '
