Gatwick Airport Station - probably one of the earliest airport stations in the world and certainly the first in the UK ... but only there as it was the old Racecourse Station. However it shows the smart business management of the Southern Railway that it went with the competition rather than ignoring it. ... and how long did it take to link that great planning disaster - Heathrow - to the rail network ... another 50 or so years! '
