' These Sheds were originally the Newcastle Shipbuilding Company 'Plater's Sheds' but they went bankrupt in 1921. In 1925 the place was auctioned off & didn't sell so items were sold cheaply. The Reay Gear Works from Gateshead ended up with the Sheds & ran their gear wheel/gearbox manufacturing business there. Later it became George Angus Gears & later again Richard & Westgarth Transmissions. RWT ran it until the mid 1970s. I have lots of photos taken at RWT on my website www.oldtynside.co.uk . A modern housing estate stands on this land today in 20013 '
