John Ashford & Son - started in 1842, as a "gift toy maker" (small decorative objects), in Lionel St. In 1912 they moved to a new building, designed by Arthur McKewan in "Arts and Crafts" style, in Great Hampton St trading as a manufacturing jeweller. Ashfords closed in 1980 but building survives in 2013 '
