' Commercial development above stations with over bridges became very popular for railway companies in the 1920s and 1930s. Other examples around London include Wimbledon (with the idea much redeveloped and enlarged today), Sutton and West Croydon. (Pictures on BfA) The resultant small parades of shops, which often included florists, fruit stalls and newsagents, provided convenient shopping for homeward bound commuters! '
