' Brickworks - the kilns were still there in the mid 1950's and we used to play in them. They were also used by the local tramps but we never really had any problems with them. By the late 1950's the whole of this area which we called Barney's became a refuse tip for Manchester City Council. I think the left corner of the picture would be where the Manchester Fort shopping area is now. The Irish World Heritage Centre is probably where the pond is centre left. The carriage works and sidings are now the Metro depot. '
