These bridges without track may be part of the preparations for building the enlarge Margate West station, which required the widening of the line to four tracks at this point. This was part of wider changes to the old LCDR and SER lines in east Kent to eliminate terminal stations nor only in Margate but also in Ramsgate and provide the through route used today. This was one of the most rapid and obvious impacts of the arrival of the Southern Railway rationalising its routes and station where its constituent companies had been in wasteful competition. '
