Cranford House was owned by the Berkeley family of Berkeley Castle in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. Hence we get the nearby Berkeley Arms Hotel in Cranford (now renamed, and this replaced an earlier establishment near Cranford Bridge), and Berkeley School and Berkeley Waye in Heston. '
