SHMD (which stood for Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Tramways and Eelctricity Board) tram depot. This opened in 1903 and closed as an operational depot as early as 1911. Despite that it is only very recently that redevelopment caused the tram tracks to finally disappear from view. The name of the undertaking explains why tram depot and sub-station were in the same building. '
