Site of Great Peter Street Gas Works, first gas works in London. Redeveloped and two large gas holders built in 1880. These were demolished in 1937. During WW2 two large government bunkers were built in the resulting holes (the Marsham Rotundas), and in the sixties three hideous office blocks were built over the bunkers (the three ugly sisters aka Marsham Towers. The whole lot was cleared in 2002 and replaced with 2 Marsham Street '
