' Station was later rebuilt with four platforms. Trains ran in having passed the loco off the previous train which had run out onto the pier. This then coupled up to the back of the train and took it off to its next destination. As a result there was very little empty stock working at Ryde Pier Head. All Isle of Wight engines were tank engines. '
