' Blair's shear legs were built in 1887 and remained a prominent feature on Stockton's waterfront until they were dismantled after being partially destroyed by fire in 1933. The shear legs were capable of lifting loads up to 100 tons and were used to transfer completed engines and other heavy equipment from the shore into ships being fitted out. '
