Nos. 1203 and 1205 Tyburn Road that were destroyed on 12th October 1941 when a Westland Lysander crashed and exploded killing Sgt. Samuel Haywood Alsop (pilot, aged 19) and Acting Flt.Lt. Albert Edward Garrett (passenger, aged 44) after losing a portion of wing by clipping the cable of the barrage balloon sited in the bottom corner of Pype Hayes park on approach to landing at Castle Bromwich aerodrome. Their inquest states that there were no casualties from the houses. Albert Garrett left a widow and two sons, he was my grandfather.
