NELPC was founded in April 1889.
First Supply: Electricity generation began on 11 March 1891 from Bridge Street Power Station, located in Northampton town centre.
Early Capacity: By 1897, the generating capacity was 425 kW, with a maximum load of 182 kW.
Sales of electricity were 114.676 MWh, yielding £3,032.
Customer Growth: The supply expanded progressively:
1893: 4,600 lamps
1897: 11,084 lamps
Initial Technology: The Bridge Street station used reciprocating engines and a turbo-alternator, producing direct current (DC) for local consumers
