Originally Middlestown goods station, located on the ex Midland railway's Royston (Barnsley) to Dewsbury goods line. The line was part of a scheme in 1898 link the Midland main line with the Settle-Carlisle line forming a new London-Scotland line vis Dewsbury, the Spen Valley and a tunnel under the centre of Bradford. Only the Dewsbury portion was built. '
