Grand Union Canal, The Soar Navigation. This section of canal serves Loughborough and bypasses an awkward section for navigation of the River Soar. The navigation continues northwards to meet with the River Trent, the Trent and Mersey and the Erewash Canals north of Ratcliffe on Soar. Southwards the canal passes through Leicester and eventually joins the main route of the GU at Norton Junction, near to the 'Watford Gap' services on the M1. '
