This footbridge over the LMS railway connecting Northwick Avenue and The Ridgeway existed long before the area was developed for housing. It was built to honour a right of way (an established historical footpath). Railway companies were required by law to provide and maintain such footbridges as a condition of running their alignment across such rights of way. '
