Location of a 2ndWW defence point. The Defence of Britain Project records -"This is a three gun coastal defence battery built on the cliffs on the Island at St. Ives. It was established in 1860 and de-commissioned in 1895. It was originally armed with 1 x 64pdr. muzzle loading cannon and 2 x 32pdr. muzzle loaders The magazine was adapted to store exploding shells and, although it was decommissioned in 1895, the guns were not removed until 1909. The Battery has been used this century as a coastguard lookout, but it is understood to have been equipped with anti-aircraft Lewis guns at some time during WW2. Battery accommodation currently used as an artists studio and is in good condition." '
