' Peter Spence's Sulphuric Acid Plant. They used the old "Lead Chamber Process" to make sulphuric acid. The acid was an integral part of alum manufacture. Later, when the business was bought by Laporte Industries Ltd, this part of the site was dismantled and a new acid plant constructed which used the more modern "Contact Process". '
