' One of the municipal football grounds where I played for Slough Town Under XVs against Reading around 1959/60. However back in 1953 - the Coronation Year - it was the site of a May Day Pageant where we were made to dance around a maypole. Most of the primary schools took part. We had to wear Elizabethan dress which for us little boys was girls black tights and navy knickers with yellow diamonds sewn on! I'll never forgive them for that! The shame! A school is now sited on the southern boundary - Herschel Grammar School - I think we (Slough Grammar School) played them at cricket in the early 60s. '
