' Trolleybus standing at the terminal of route 696. Along with routes 694 & 698 these routes were self contained, isolated from the rest of the system across the river and to the west. Operating out of Bexleyheath depot they ran between Woolwich, Plumpstead, Erith, Welling, Bexleyheath and Dartford. The 696 commenced service to Dartford on 10th November 1935 and, unfortunately, along with service 654 in Croydon were the first victims of London Transport's policy to replace the remaining trams, and the trolleybus system by diesel buses. The last trolleybuses to Dartford ran on 3rd March 1959. '
