' This area was once an army rifle range. It was also an airship station during WW1 and a site for early tank development, both rather curiously under the auspices of the Royal Navy. During WW2 it was the domestic and admin site for a Heavy Anti-Aircraft battery. Gunsite Camp, as it was known, was retained for some years after the end of the war and used to house army personnel, such as those working for the Royal Engineers Postal Branch. It was later redeveloped as the West London / Linford Christie Stadium sports centre. '
