' Just inside the East gate (now disappeared) this is most probably the headstone, then still erect, of PC William Davey, who was shot whilst On Duty whilst trying to apprehend a suspect in nearby Avenue Road, Ealing. 19th January, 1863. The headstone has lain flat on the ground inside the boundary wall for decades, and is now broken into 3 pieces with the inscription barely decipherable. '
