' Cummersdale Print works, built in 1801 by Forster's the Carlisle bankers & merchants, they continued trading until about 1817, the works were advertised to let or for sale in 1823, but it wasn't until 1835 that the water wheels were set in motion again when Thomas McAlpin and his relatives moved there and set up business after splitting from his business partners in nearby Wigton. The World famous company are still printing their textiles today for all the major retail customers world wide. '
