British Tabulating Machine Company from the rear. Vital, top secret, work was undertaken here during WW2, enabling the German Enigma codes to be decyphered. The chief engineer, Harold (Doc) Keen worked with Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman of Bletchley Park to produce the Bombe code breaking machines which were manufactured here. The first machine, named Victory, was completed and delivered to Hut 1, Bletchley Park (by an open lorry without guard so as not to attract attention)in March 1940. A further prototype named Agnus Dei or Agnes/Aggie was installed at Bletchley in August 1940. A further 210 machines were produced up to 1945.
