' Wilmslow Gas Works. On the 5th August 1871 during the building of the then 'new' gas works whilst digging about 23ft below ground level the walls collapsed and 8 men were buried, two were saved as they were only partially buried but, unfortunately, the following men lost their lives; JOHN MOTTRAM, FREDERICK RICHARDS, STEPHEN DUFFY, NOAH WORTH, GEORGE WORTH, JOHN PEARSON.
