THE 'BIRMINGHAM EMPIRE' THEATRE... A MR JAMES DAY BUILT A THEATRE, CALLED 'DAY'S CRYSTAL PALACE', OPENING IN 1862, ON THE FORMER SITE OF 'THE WHITE SWAN' PUBLIC HOUSE. THIS CONCERT HALL FINALLY CLOSED IN 1893, SOLD TO 'MOSS EMPIRES LTD' WHO DEMOLISHED MOST OF IT AND REBUILT ANEW, OPENING IN 1894 AS 'THE NEW EMPIRE OF VARIETIES'. ALSO KNOWN AS 'THE EMPIRE THEATRE', 'THE EMPIRE PALACE', AND 'THE BIRMINGHAM EMPIRE'......THE BUILDING WAS DESTROYED BY WWII BOMBS IN 1941 AND WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1951.....FROM THE 60'S THE NEW BUILDINGS HAVE HOUSED A SUCCESSION OF NIGHTCLUBS.
