This locomotive looks to be an ex Great Central Railway Pollit or Robinson 4-4-0 - Except for two railcars owned by the Cheshire Lines, all passenger trains were hauled by GCR (formerly the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway)engines from the start of the CLC company. Ownership of the GCR was passed to the LNER in 1923 so this engine would have LNER on the side of the tender and would be painted black instead of the original GCR colour of a lightish green. The CLC remained an independent company until 1948 when the railways were nationalised.
