This site is RAF Ventnor at St Boniface Down. These three wooden towers, each 240 feet high, were the receiver towers completed in October 1938 as part of the Chain Home radar project authorised by the government in 1937. The radar station was comprised of three steel 350 foot transmitter towers, the foot of one can just be seen on the far right of the photo', plus the receiver towers shown here. The site was attacked by the Luftwaffe on the 12th August 1940 and put out of action until repaired.
