' This is the Town Cage or Lockup for the incarceration and punishment of minor offenders such as 'drunkards'. It is not known when it was built. From the 1920s until it was demolished in the 1960s the old town stocks were displayed there. The forecourt of the Carnegie Room that opened in 1968 now stands on the site. '
