' Built in about 1942, the Pit Shop was owned by George and Alice Lockwood, my home from 1972 - 1976, the shop closed in about 1973/4. George and Alice used to sell glasses of pop and loose cigarettes to the miners, they generally called in for the last fag or first fag after a shift. Ideally paced opposite the pit gates/yard and offices. The shop originally was a wooden shed according to George on the land between the new shop and the bungalow to the right. The shop is now known as Ewe bank house. '
