' Aintree Central Station (ex CLC) - Up to 1966 this station was very busy handling Grand National excursions from many parts of the UK. The station had very infrequent services during the rest of the year. Most services went to Warrington and Manchester over the North Liverpool Extension line. Latterly, direct services to Manchester and Liverpool Centrals (the old Liverpool Central high level station now the Merseyrail underground hub ) ceased as this route was somewhat roundabout using the Liverpool loop line and could not compete with the shorter route to Liverpool Exchange (now Moorfields) from Aintree Sefton Arms station. No trace of Aintree Central now exists. '
