Wilmslow Road (A538 Altrincham-Wilmslow road) - original course. The road is now diverted, and runs under the airport's much extended runways via a tunnel. Until the early 1960s, the original road, as shown here, used to be briefly closed like a manually operated railway level crossing each time a large plane took off or landed. '
